5000 Role Models of Excellence

5000 Role Models of Excellence is a non-profit organization founded in 1993 to provide mentorship and guidance to at-risk boys and young men of color. The program provides an array of services and resources to help young men develop the skills and tools needed to become successful, responsible, and productive citizens. The 5000 Role Models program works to promote positive male role models and to develop young men's social, emotional, and academic competencies in an effort to increase their chances for success in the 21st century. The program also strives to provide a positive environment for young men to learn, grow, and develop leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

5000 Role Models of Excellence is based on the belief that the best way to reduce school drop-out rates, gang involvement, and juvenile delinquency among at-risk boys and young men of color is to provide them with positive male role models. The program focuses on engaging young men in activities that promote self-esteem and provide positive reinforcement, as well as mentor-mentee relationships. The program works to improve academic performance and increase college readiness by helping young men develop the skills and attitudes needed for college and career success. The program also works to help young men develop a strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability.

The program has been highly successful in the past, and it continues to be a valuable resource for at-risk boys and young men of color. Through mentorship, guidance, and support, 5000 Role Models of Excellence strives to create a better future for these young men and increase their chances for academic and personal success.

Boys' Basketball Team

Ruben Dario Middle School's Boys' Basketball team offers students a unique opportunity to develop their skills and become better basketball players. As part of the team, students will become part of a supportive and encouraging community of peers and coaches.

Ruben Dario Middle School’s Boys' Soccer team is an exciting and challenging sport for young athletes. Welcome to Ruben Dario Middle School's Math Club! Our club provides a fun and supportive environment for students to learn and grow as mathematicians. Ruben Dario Middle School's Future Educators of America (FEA) club is a student organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the teaching profession. We strive to bring together students passionate about education and provide them with the tools, resources, and experiences needed to succeed as future educators. Through our meetings and activities, members learn about the importance of education, the importance of equitable access to education, and the importance of advocating for students’ rights.

Girls' Basketball Team

Ruben Dario Middle School’s Girls' Basketball team is an amazing way for students to stay active, develop team-building skills, and have fun. Basketball teaches the importance of dedication, hard work, and perseverance. Our team is focused on developing the necessary fundamentals, such as dribbling, passing, and shooting, while also having fun and building team spirit.

The team will meet twice a week for practices and games, with each practice focusing on a certain aspect of the game, such as offensive or defensive strategies. Each game will challenge the team to work together and build their skills to win. And, of course, our team will support each other on and off the court.

Girls' Flag Football Team

Ruben Dario Middle School's Girls' Flag Football team is the perfect opportunity for students to learn the rules and strategies of the game, build teamwork, and have fun! Flag football is a non-contact version of the traditional American football game, and the emphasis is on learning the rules and building a team spirit.

Players have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game, including passing, catching, and running, as well as basic defensive strategies. The coaching staff works together to create a positive and encouraging atmosphere, while also teaching the basics of the game.

By joining the Girls' Flag Football team, students will learn the importance of teamwork and build skills such as communication, discipline, and perseverance. Flag football also offers an opportunity for physical fitness and fun.

Girls' Volleyball Team

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

There are five (5) main purposes have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for Scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render Service; to promote Leadership; to encourage responsible Citizenship; and to develop Character in students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection.

Current members of NJHS, please see Ms. Walker in ROOM 230 regarding your membership dues for the 2025-2026 school year.

Please do the following to pay for your MEMBERSHIP DUES:

1) Log into the M-DCPS STUDENT PORTAL.

2) At the TOP of the portal, click "APPS/SERVICES/SITES.

3) Scroll down to OSP (Online School Payments) and click on the App.

4) Then, at the TOP of the OSP page, under "Middle School," scroll down and click on "RUBEN DARIO MIDDLE - 6121"

5) You will click on "SELECT" next to National Junior Honor Society, and "ADD TO CART."

6) Then, click "Checkout" on the far-right side of the page. You will then complete the payment information.

Robotics Club

Ruben Dario Middle School's Women of Tomorrow is an organization that empowers and encourages young women to strive for excellence in their academic and personal endeavors. Our mission is to inspire our members to become leaders and role models in their community and to develop the courage and determination to reach their full potential. We provide a safe and supportive environment where our members can share their experiences and ideas, build meaningful relationships, and learn from one another.

Our club offers weekly meetings, guest speakers, and other activities that promote self-confidence, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills. We also provide leadership training and mentorship opportunities. With the help of our advisors, our members are encouraged to reach their fullest potential and make a positive impact in our community.
